The City of Jackson Recognizes Frontline Workers with Special Bonus This Holiday Season

Jackson, TENN— Mayor Scott Conger is giving City of Jackson police, firefighters and central dispatch a $1,000 holiday bonus. Additional city employees are eligible to receive up to $500 in bonus pay.

“The City Council and I have been conservative with our pandemic budgeting and have experienced a tax revenue surplus,” said Mayor Scott Conger. “I want to invest those funds back into our most valuable assets - our people and community.”

The City of Jackson has 403 first responders that will each receive $1,000. City employees who have been employed for one year or more will receive $500. City employees who have been employed for 6 months to 1 year will receive $250. Employees with less than 6 months of employment will receive $100.

“In addition to the coronavirus pandemic, it’s been a tough year for many of our employees,” said Jackson Police Chief Julian Wiser. “We have sons, daughters, mothers, fathers, sisters and brothers in our city who wake up daily to put their lives on the line. Each day is unpredictable and risky. Every single one of our officers signed up to help people and make a positive difference. We are extremely grateful for the holiday bonuses and appreciate their sacrifice.”

“I’ve been working with the fire department for 45 years and this has been one of the most challenging years,” said Jackson Fire Chief Darryl Samuels. “Firefighters are accustomed to mitigating any potential danger; however, the virus is stealthy. We never know what we are going into when we are called into action and we don’t have the luxury of time. People depend on us to act quickly and without hesitation. I’m honored to be part of recognizing our first responders in a tangible way.”

In total, the City of Jackson is investing $534,350.
