More items properly disposed during City of Jackson’s 2nd Community Clean-up Day
JACKSON, Tenn. – City of Jackson, TN Health and Sanitation Department and Keep Jackson Beautiful held their second community clean-up day event to help curb illegal dumping, on Saturday, September 17, 2022.
11 mattresses, 53 pieces of furniture, and 30 tires were collected at the two locations, which included Malesus Park and West Tennessee Healthcare North Jackson Hospital.
“Our second community clean-up day disposal event was another success,” said City of Jackson, TN Health and Sanitation Department Director Leilani Mills. “We are thankful to those residents who participated. That’s more mattresses, furniture and tires not on the side of the road.”
Mills says that the low numbers for the second event could be a result from bulk waste routes that had been covered within 2-3 weeks. There were also other clean-up events taking place that weekend.
In addition to the clean-up, 12 tarps were given away for the “Tarp Your Load” giveaway sponsored by Keep Tennessee Beautiful and the Tennessee Department of Transportation’s Nobody Trashes Tennessee Campaign.
“Our Health and Sanitation Department employees work hard each day on their routes picking up bulk items and I join our residents in appreciating their hard work,” said Mayor Scott Conger. “I want to say thank you, again, to our citizens who took initiative to dispose of their mattresses, old furniture, and tires properly.”
The third Community Clean-Up Day will be schedule for October.
