JACKSON, Tenn. – On Friday, March 18, Tennessee first lady Maria Lee will PITCH IN alongside Tennessee business and industry leaders for a litter pickup at Shirlene Mercer Walking Trail Park located at 800 East Chester Street in Jackson. The event will kick off at 10 a.m. CT with a brief program to welcome volunteers and provide safety information and cleanup instructions.
This event is open to media with one-on-one availability with local officials immediately following the program. The cleanup will also commence immediately following the program.
“We are thrilled to have First Lady Maria Lee in Jackson for Pitch In TN,” said City of Jackson, TN Recycle Coordinator Robin Chance. “I look forward to the help our volunteers, who have a heart to keep our city and state free of litter, will bring to this event.”
The location for this cleanup was selected by Robin Chance who serves as Litter Grant Program coordinator for the city of Jackson. This area was chosen for its ranking in the city’s litter index data and in coordination with other city initiatives.
“We welcome First Lady Maria Lee to our great city,” said Mayor Scott Conger. “And we thank her and Keep Tennessee Beautiful for choosing Jackson for the Pitch In TN initiative.”
All supplies including bags, gloves, hand sanitizer, pickup sticks and safety vests for volunteers are provided by Keep Tennessee Beautiful. Water for volunteers will be provided by Jackson Coca-Cola Bottling Company. Volunteers should register at www.PitchInTN.com.
ADDITIONAL VOLUNTEER AND LOGISTICS INFORMATION
Parking is available onsite with overflow parking at Centennial Park (located across the street). Volunteers will be divided into groups; each group will focus on beautifying different parks and trails and adjacent areas and roadways.
At the close of the event, volunteers will meet at one of the informational tents to return their safety vests and pickup equipment. For those who need to register their volunteer hours, sheets will be signed at this time. No sheets will be signed prior to the commencement of the event. If a participant leaves early, they will be registered for the amount of time served.
