City of Jackson, TN and Waste Management to begin Winter Storm Fern Trash Collection Recovery efforts
Posted on 02/01/2026

Jackson, Tenn. – The City of Jackson, in coordination with Waste Management - Jackson, TN, announces updated service schedules and recovery efforts following recent weather conditions.

Waste Management (WM) will begin Monday route collections on a delayed schedule starting at 7:30 a.m. on February 2. The City of Jackson Health & Sanitation Department, Public Works, and the illegal dumping contractor will assist with citywide recovery efforts.

Routes will be assessed for safe access. Streets that remain impassable will be placed on a Recovery List and serviced once conditions improve.

On Tuesday, February 3, 2026, WM will transition to Tuesday routes, following the same assessment process. Any impassable streets will also be added to the Recovery List. City of Jackson and WM crews will return to all streets on the Recovery List as soon as they can be safely accessed.

Important Reminders for all Solid Waste Collection Customers:

  • Please do not overfill your garbage cart. Any overflow of trash bags should be placed away from mailboxes, vehicles, poles, and other obstructions so operators can safely maneuver equipment without causing damage.
  • All containers must remain accessible for service. This includes front-load dumpsters and roll-off containers not obstructed by ice, snow, or snow pushed from plowed areas.

Due to increased travel time, excessive trash volumes, and longer landfill disposal times, recovery collections may take longer than normal.

Bulk waste collection is temporarily on hold until debris is cleared from frozen precipitation. Once conditions improve, bulk waste routes will resume and customers whose service was canceled last week will be rescheduled.

Please note that credits will not be issued for delays or disruptions in service due to weather conditions.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we work together to get our community back on track.
